Physical and Chemical Index Properties of Residual Strength of Various Soils

要旨
There are correlations between the residual strength and the soil index properties. The soil index are as follows; the clay fraction, Fclay, as related to physical property of soil particle, the pH and the salinity as related to chemical property of pore water, the liquid limit, wL, and the plasticity index, IP, as related to engineering properties of fine-grained soil. This study aimed for determining the residual strength from the soil index. To attain this purpose, the linear and involution functions are fitted to the relations. Additionally, the multiple regression analysis is carried out on our data and others, in order to examine correlation between the residual strength and the above index. For soils containing smectite dominantly, there are close correlations between the residual strength and the above index of the soils. Among the index properties used here, the ratio of the plastic limit to the liquid limit correlates most closely with the residual strength. The residual strength of such soils can be estimated based on both the index property and the mineral composition. It should be noted that the data used in the multiple regression analysis took account for mineral composition and type of laboratory test. As a result, the value of correlation coefficient improved in any combination of the explanatory variables. Therefore the residual strength can be estimated from Fclay, wL and wP of soil.

有明海の海水交換の時間スケールに関する数値実験的検討

要旨
The Ariake Sea Japan is surrounded by Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Saga and Nagasaki prefecture, and has a huge tidal flat area with a very high productivity. Nowadays, the water environments in the Ariake Sea have been worsened by various factors such as the reclamation of the large tidal flat, a decrease in the tidal height of the outer sea, an increase of the mean water depth and so on. It is suspected that the embankment in the Isahaya bay is one of the main factors. The effect of the existence of the embankment in the Isahaya bay on the seawater exchange in the Ariake Sea is investigated numerically in this paper. The negative influence of the embankment in the Isahaya Bay on the water exchange can be recognized under the numerical conditions used here. However, its influence is not so much large quantitatively.

大学生の防災意識に関するアンケート調査: 社会建設工学科学生を対象に

要旨
We have performed the questionnaire survey on interest in disaster of students who are in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Economics at Yamaguchi University as representation of the younger generation. The main results of the questionnaire survey are summarized as follows;
1) The highest interested disaster is an earthquake for students belonged to both departments. On the other hand, the low interested disasters are a thunderbolt, a tsunami, and a volcano activity.
2) There are many students who think that it is possible for him to suffer a great deal of damage in the future from an earthquake and not to suffer damage form a tsunami and a volcano activity.
3) There are many students who do not make disaster measures.
4) The interest of a tsunami increased after the earthquake of Sumatra off happened..

AlGaN混晶半導体における局在励起子分子

要旨
Excitonic optical properties of Ga-rich AlxGa1-xN ternary alloy epitaxial layers with aluminum compositions of x = 0.019, 0.038, 0.057, 0.077, and 0.092 have been studied by means of photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved PL, and PL excitation spectroscopy. The luminescence line due to radiative recombination of biexcitons was clearly observed for all of five samples. On the basis of two-photon absorption of biexcitons, a Stokes shift of biexcitons and binding energy of biexcitons were determined quantitatively as a function of aluminum composition. The biexciton localization due to alloy disorder resulted in a strong enhancement of the biexciton binding energy.

地元住民団体による茅葺き古民家の再生 : 山口県下関市菊川町「歌野清流庵」の事例

要旨
Recently, traditional wooden houses are renovated and used by the public institution. On one side, the renovation case of the traditional wooden house by the inhabitant group isn't seen. This paper deals with the activity of the inhabitant group which renovated the traditional wooden house in Yamaguchi prefecture. As a result of their activities for four years, the value of the traditional wooden house was introduced to the people of the area and control and maintenance became possible by the inhabitant group. Such unique ways of the renovation bring the effect use of the traditional wooden house, and it is connected with the action of the farm village.

海岸環境の望ましい姿と人々の関わり方に関する住民意識調査

要旨
A questionnaire survey on seashore environment was carried out in residential area near Yakeno and Shiratsuchi beach, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and desirable seashore environment and people’s concern about it were discussed. Although many people recognize the importance of considering natural environment and landscape on construction of coastal facilities, they do not agree whether the importance should be placed on natural environment or construction. Sanitary coastal and water environment is necessary to desirable seashore environment followed by sensory amenity factors such as seashore smell and wave sound. In order to establish better seashore environment voluntary actions to clean up beach is fundamental rather than various special actions.

系統交通信号のオフセット自動生成によるリアルタイム制御

要旨
This paper presents a real-time control method how to change the offsets for traffic signal coordination in response to fluctuation of traffic situation. The offsets are adjusted so as to minimize the delay obtained from a simulation which introduces traffic demand through on-line measurement.Through some calculation examples, it is confirmed that the offsets are responsive to traffic demand,and that the controls taking in the information about traffic prediction and saturation flow measurement are effective compared with the controls without the information
